چکیده

Wide use of surface electromyograph (sEMG) has been made for efficient recognition of finger gestures due to its convenient to use and distinguishing signal patterns along finger movements. For high classification accuracy, it is important to have a consistent feature of sEMG signal feature for each finger gesture of a number. However, feature of sEMG signal for identical finger gesture can be different because of different muscle activation even in identical shape of gesture. Thus the experimental results in this work may motivate further study on how to make consistent muscle activation for a finger gesture at each try.

Selection of suitable hand gestures for reliable myoelectric human computer interface

BACKGROUND Myoelectric controlled prosthetic hand requires machine based identification of hand gestures using surface electromyogram (sEMG) recorded from the forearm muscles. This study has observed that a sub-set of the hand gestures have to be selected for an accurate automated hand gesture recognition, and reports a method to select these gestures to maximize the sensitivity and specificity...

Non-Uniform Sample Assignment in Training Set Improving Recognition of Hand Gestures Dominated with Similar Muscle Activities

So far, little is known how the sample assignment of surface electromyogram (sEMG) features in training set influences the recognition efficiency of hand gesture, and the aim of this study is to explore the impact of different sample arrangements in training set on the classification of hand gestures dominated with similar muscle activation patterns. Seven right-handed healthy subjects (24.2 ± ...

A preliminary investigation assessing the viability of classifying hand postures in seniors

BACKGROUND Fear of frailty is a main concern for seniors. Surface electromyography (sEMG) controlled assistive devices for the upper extremities could potentially be used to augment seniors' force while training their muscles and reduce their fear of frailty. In fact, these devices could both improve self confidence and facilitate independent leaving in domestic environments. The successful imp...

Online Finger Gesture Recognition Using Surface Electromyography Signals

The analysis on the online finger gesture recognition using multi-channel sEMG signals was explored in this paper. Nine types of gestures were applied to be identified, involving six kinds of numerical finger gestures and three kinds of hand gestures. The time domain parameters were extracted to be the features. And then, the probabilistic neural network was utilized to classify the proposed ge...

Gesture recognition by instantaneous surface EMG images

Gesture recognition in non-intrusive muscle-computer interfaces is usually based on windowed descriptive and discriminatory surface electromyography (sEMG) features because the recorded amplitude of a myoelectric signal may rapidly fluctuate between voltages above and below zero. Here, we present that the patterns inside the instantaneous values of high-density sEMG enables gesture recognition ...
